Point the first: Li has an actual set of moves.

Point the second: They are oddly compatible with Disgaea's battle system owing to Live-a-Live's battle grid, although the time delays go against Disgaea's system.

Point the third: I have a bad memory for remembering this stuff off the bat.

For anybody bored enough to read this, the Move names and descriptions are primarily lifted straight from the 2.0 translation of Live-a-Live; extra notes are added to note moves with special movement properties.

Smooth moves. )

Li sits at her favorite spot near the cracked boulder, with its small "shrine" of sorts, staring out at the view, sitting cross-legged.

Signs 'a recent battles... buncha refugees fleein' left and right... smoke in the distance every dang place I scope out fer trainin'... alien monsters... and now crazy people left and right...

She claps her hands to her head and shakes it in frustration.

Awwwww GODDAMN IT! I thought we had this shit sorted! What the fuck is going ON around here lately?! I know I missed the last big battle, but I weren't in THIS much of a rush fer shit to go down!
xin_shan_quan_girl: (Default)
So they took her down, huh.

...

...

Damnit, I missed all the action! Bah, whatever. Just glad t' see nobody got their asses killed in all this. SOMEHOW.
xin_shan_quan_girl: (what the fuck)
She tries to think of something to say that isn't, "Why am I rooming with a guy again?"

...They actually roomed you with Revya? Man, tough fuckin' break there, huh?
xin_shan_quan_girl: (A few thoughts)
Cool, calm, and composed is the master, trained in body, mind and soul, clear of mind and -- oh, goddamnit it all.

It didn't take long for Li to write off the whole "stand under a waterfall and meditate" nonsense once and for all. Supposedly, it was a method of training, but after feeling cold, wet, and cranky, she decided it wasn't really helping much.

As she sat at the edge of the pond near the small waterfall shivering, she mulled over her previous failure. The ultimate move was meant to be a last resort, a finishing blow against a truly powerful and dangerous enemy, and yet she kept whipping it out. That last fight was meant to be a friendly bout, and yet she hadn't held back at all.

Well, it's only fucking fair, he was using magic, right? I had to compensate.

Yeah, against a little kid who admits his magic's th' only way he can fight at a higher level. The fuck's wrong with you?

It wasn't a fair fight!

Sure as hell wasn't! You knocked him out! Were you training him, or just trying to win?

A part of it too, she was certain now, was just because he was a guy. A young guy, sure, but a guy regardless, and that constant urge to prove herself on equal grounds, if not better, than any guy in a fight had come to the forefront.

"Damnit, you old bastard. Why couldn't you have been a total asshole so I had less to live up to," she muttered. That underlying insecurity, the one that stated she was only the master because there had literally been no other choice, flared to the surface for a moment, again, and she had to fight it down. What good was a physical victory if she still couldn't reach that same level of respect her master commanded for the RIGHT reasons?

She shivered some more. Whoever came up with this waterfall shit needed his ass kicked.
xin_shan_quan_girl: (to the future)
She stands at her favorite hill again, focusing her mind. This has never been an entirely easy process for her, especially when something rankles at her, but she tries her best. Still, the sighting of Revya has set her ill at ease, and finally she sighs and turns towards the split rock.

Old man... seems like there are people in this world worse than Odi Wan -- or, hell, worse than Demon King Odio. Hard t' believe, I know, but so it seems. I can feel it. She don't destroy like Odi Wan, or Odio, or any of them guys I heard th' others talk about. It's damn scary, if I wanna be honest.

Sammo, Yuan... Master. If I do find I have to face her down, I'm gonna need your strength. Th' strength to fight her, and to help others fight her. I ain't ever been th' most level-headed type. So I need you guys to help keep me on the straight and narrow, okay? Okay.

I won't let you down, guys. Old man, you passed this art down to me, and I ain't goin' down without makin' another master to follow after me. You have my promise to that.
xin_shan_quan_girl: (OW you'll pay for that)
4? 4?! Goddamnit it! How the hell did they get him out of the room? Did he wander off? Shit, does this mean someone filled the bounty? I'm gonna KILL 'em!
xin_shan_quan_girl: (Default)
Li's victory in the Cave of Ordeals has given her some of her groove back. So that prolonged absence? Wasn't so much her just disappearing so much as her spending a few days training and generally scoping out some of the new territories the Dimensional Gate unearthed for new training grounds. And she thinks she's found something. She hopes.

Oy! Reisen! I found our next trainin' spot. And so help me if you tell me you're fuckin' used to humid places too, I'm gonna knock yer block off!
xin_shan_quan_girl: (aggh!)
Card games?!

CARD GAMES?!

An entire Netherworld full of badass fighters, and the first fuckin' tournament I see around here is for a motherfuckin' CARD GAME?! The hell is wrong with you all?!
xin_shan_quan_girl: (Default)
The boulder split by Li a while back has a couple bowls of incense and an odd Netherworld sort of flower in front of it. Li stands before it, her hands together in quiet contemplation. When she's certain there's no one around, she speaks to it.

Hey old man... Yuan... Sammo. Been a while, right? Sorry I ain't been able to talk to you guys much lately. Teachin' th' students had me runnin' ragged fer a while, and then there's this whole bullshit with Baal, which is why I ain't talkin' to you guys at th' right place. This boulder reminds me of th' one at the top of the mountain, though. You know, that one, right? I split that one too. Man, I felt good when I did that.

Hey, old man, I blew my top again. How'd ya do it, anyway? Stayin' so calm when others needled ya. Th' only time I ever saw you really fuckin' mad was when Odie Wan's bunch of goons came by, and even then you knew how t' use it. Me, I just keep gettin' pissed off. Like during this weird festival thing. If I keep doin' that, I'll never be a master, right?

...

*sigh* Not that you can really give me any advice at this point...
xin_shan_quan_girl: (what the fuck)
What?! The hell's up with all this candy suddenly in my room?! It's all in Chinese, too. That's crazy, man. I don't get it.

Is it for me? Wait, is this shit drugged? 'Cause I don't want no drugged candy in --

What's on the television set?

...the fuck? Candy? Costumes? Oh, I get it, it's some sorta festival. Whatever. Hey, what's this White Rabbit stuff? Looks good...
xin_shan_quan_girl: (what the fuck)
Oy, Reimu! Reeeeimu! I got paid in my job, so I'm totally comin' t' donate like I said! Oh, and I found some shop that actually sells moon --

Cue stopping and staring at the current state of the Hakurei shrine.

-- cakes.

...what. The. Shit.
xin_shan_quan_girl: (wounded but not beat)
Li hurries back to her room, opening the door.

Oyyy 4! 4!

Shit, I can't fucking believe this -- 4! Whereever you are, get your ass over here! You've got serious trouble!

((EDIT: Li is now heading to Room -205 to check on 6.))
xin_shan_quan_girl: (Default)
Big ass crazy festival here. I wonder if this junk food is edible by any human standard whatsoever? Or even by Sammo's standard

..."Fun House?" What's supposed t' make it any more fun than any other house? And it's probably demon standard fun too... hell.
xin_shan_quan_girl: (I'm right you're wrong)
Okay, you people, listen up! I'm sure if any lesson was driven home thoroughly during this power loss bullshit, it's that you can't go relyin' on a bunch of fancy bullshit and magic 'n stuff all the time! You gotta train th' body and th' mind if you wanna make sure to keep on even grounds!

So here's the deal! If I can't go trainin' my students back home, I might as well look fer some willing types here! You got th' drive, th' mentality to learn the art of Xin Shan Quan? Did y' find yerself completely flat-footed during this whole nonsense? Look me up! Hell, you guys might even be able t' beat me with th' right trainin'! ...Maybe!
xin_shan_quan_girl: (Default)
Strengthen the mind and the body will follow... clear your mind of all earthly concerns, the mind is your greatest weapon -- aw fuck it.

Hey, they got a television in this chapel? I got time t' kill until this wedding and I wanna watch "Netherworld's Funniest Home Videos."
xin_shan_quan_girl: (Default)
Peh. The old man would'a been a pretty craptastic teacher if he expected me t' rely entirely on fancy shit.

So I can't use Hua Long Tian Sheng Zhi or Xuan Ya Lian Shan Quan. Big whoop. Was fightin' long before I learned th' fancy stuff, and the old man left me plenty of non-fancy moves to use. Still a dumbass thing to interrupt "Wrestling with Dragons" for, though.

Suppose I'd better check on everyone else, though. This has gotta be a bitch for 'em.
xin_shan_quan_girl: (focus of the master)
Even in the wilds of the Netherworld, there are boulders.

In front of this particular boulder, a figure in pink stands, her palms together, her eyes closed. She focuses.

Slowly, she begins to move -- simply at first, a few punches here, a few kicks there. Graceful, deliberate motions that are almost more of a dance than they are a martial art.

Then faster, with more power. She moves in a circle, running through the moves as if they are built into her very being. Only the smallest beads of sweat break out on her brow.

She puts her palms together again. Calm.

And then -- a hurricane. Faster than the eye can see, she moves, punching, kicking. Her mind as much of a weapon as her body, she is formidable in her actions, and yet as light on her feet as a feather.

A final moment of focus, and she directs one final punch at the boulder.

A beat.

And the boulder splits in half.

She resists the urge to smirk. She hopes Sammo, Yuan and the old man are watching somewhere.
xin_shan_quan_girl: (Default)
At some point, Li finally manages to locate both her stuff and her room; somewhat curiously, the room is actually cushier than the old dojo she inherited from her master. Even more curiously, she finds herself missing that crappy old place anyway.

Not too shabby, I suppose. Better than Odio ever did anyway.

...what's this weird lookin' box over here?

She turns on the television to some standardly sadistic demon game show.

Whoa... some sorta magic box. Or tech... tech... whatever the hell. ...pffft ha ha ha ha, right in the GROIN.

The current reigning master of the ancient kung fu styling of Xin Shan Quan is, apparently, easily amused.
